The Woolstore,

The Woolstore in Walkerburn is an exciting new project, being developed with artists studios/workspace in mind, with potential retail on the ground floor.    The developers would like to hear from anyone who is looking for space, and are open to any enquiries from a mix of businesses interested in being based at the Woolstore.  The building is currently under development, with the intention of being ready mid-summer.    A group tour of the building can be arranged, Saturday 26th April, or the following Saturday, to be confirmed, so do get in touch if you are interested in finding out more. 

The first phase of the exciting rejuvenation of the former mill buildings in the centre of Walkerburn consists of the creation of flexible work-spaces within the Woolstore building. The accommodation is on three levels, accessed by the original cast-iron staircases. Each level will provide an open plan ‘blank canvas’ workspace of approximately 190 sqm. 

The shell-state fit out includes bringing the building to current day standards of insulation to make the workspaces comfortable and easy to heat, whilst also including new washrooms and WCs at each level. The water, drainage and electrical services are being installed so as to enable complete flexibility, allowing the end user to specify a bespoke installation to suit his or her needs. New windows and doors are being fitted to all openings which will bring the building back to its former glory.

Being inside this building has to be experienced to fully appreciate the airiness and quality of light. The owner is keen to see a variety of uses hopefully encompassing studio and design, innovation, and perhaps some retail on the ground floor. For the project to be a success, he understands an open-minded approach has to be maintained and hopes to work alongside the new users of this building to it bring it back into a thriving hub within the community.
